Things begin to get clear in this XIV Brazilian State-teams Championship. After two days, Madjer’s Saõ Paulo, in Group A, and Pernambuco and Maranhão, in Group D, have bben the first ones to make their way to the quarterfinals after two victories in this initial league stage.
This XVI edition of the Brazilian Club Championship is taking place in the Clube Escola Lapa facilities (São Paulo), where up to 16 teams are taking part. Needless to say when speaking about the sport’s cradle, Brazil, the level of the competing squads is really high, with most of the Brazilian international players distributed through the state teams. And these are not empty words, as a quick glance at the results chart will immediately confirm…
The favourites for the final victory have already left their signature in these first steps. Pernambuco is the only one to leave no points behind so far, getting rid of Sergipe and Paraná. Both Maranhão and Sao Paulo have secured their place among the best eight, too, but they have had to suffer a bit more. Although counting on players such as Fernando DDI or Jaudo, the first, and Madjer, Sidney or Mão, the latter, both sides needed extra time to complete their run in one of their fixtures.
Another great clash is going to happen in group C, where current champions Rio de Janeiro, with Brazilian captain Benjamin on their side, and Rio Grande do Norte, with the verdeamarela’s outfit number nine, André, will presumably fight for the highest place in the table. In group B, both Espírito Santo and Bahia share the highest place with three points and equal goal average.
