Friendly successes help the Swiss back into the world’s top five.
Switzerland become the first Movers of the Month for 2017, returning to the world’s top five after kicking the year off with a series of friendly victories.
January’s ranking shows very little change across the board but Angelo Schirinzi’s side leapfrog Iran into fifth – an ideal boost as they continue to prepare for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in the Bahamas.
As part of those preparations, the Swiss have begun the year with friendly victories over the World Cup hosts, while also claiming wins against the Turks and Caicos Islands and Costa Rica.
Aside from Switzerland and Iran changing places, the top 10 is otherwise unchanged – Portugal, Russia, Brazil and Italy continuing to lead the way – while just outside Senegal, Ukraine and Poland move above Oman who slip three spots to 14th.
The Bahamas’ reward for taking on Switzerland, Mexico and Argentina is a one-place jump to 56th – despite defeats in those outings – while Turks and Caicos Islands climb eight spots following 10-4 and 7-1 losses to Schirinzi’s men.
Ahead of CONMEBOL, CONCACAF and AFC events in the coming weeks, which will determine their continental representatives for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, Brazil (2), Mexico (15) and Iran (6) are their highest-ranked nations respectively.
