Medero: “We have to get Argentina back amongst the best”

The Albiceleste captain explains they are training hard to improve their last  records

Despite still recovering from an injury suffered in the last game of the National Championship more than two months ago, Argentina National Team Captain Lucas Medero is fully focused on getting more and more competitive in beach soccer.

It is a shame because we had been training since February and we were feeling very well. We felt strong and determined to achieve great things this season, but this pandemic changed everything“.

Although training conditions now are very different and every player has to work individually at home, the Albiceleste side keep in close contact to jointly comment and oversee both physical and tactical aspects.

We are giving our everything to train as hard as we can, trying to adapt to the space and the materials available. It is a shame we had to interrupt our training sessions in Ezeiza, because our confidence was increasing. Of course there are things to improve, but we feel we are in the right track. We have to get Argentina back to where it belongs: amongst the best teams in the modality. We have to improve our last Copa America records (5th place) and we will focus a lot and work harder than ever as soon as the conditions allow“, he admits.

Talking about his injury, and although he avoided surgery, Medero is now very concentrated in his recovery work. “Two of the tendons in the ankle were torn. If the third one had been torn as well, I would have needed surgery. Fortunately, it didn’t, and now I am working a lot in strengthening these tendons, and I am happy because we are increasing intensity and I am feeling well“.
