The Portuguese club brought their community together last weekend to help people in need during the coronavirus outbreak
Associação Desportiva Buarcos 2017, who have taken part in the recent editions of the Euro Winners Cup in Nazare, have set up a food donation system close to the Buarcos Beach, which was the setting for the 2019 EBSL Superfinal Figueira da Foz.
The Portuguese side, who were boosted by the presence of football star Hugo Almeida in the 2019 Euro Winners Cup, organised a charity food program with the aim of helping those who have been hit the hardest by the coronavirus pandemic.
The food collected went to help families in difficult circumstances as well as institutions of the districts of Buarcos and São Julião.
The original idea was to hold a friendly match to collect funds for these families, but the restrictive conditions imposed by the authorities to battle COVID-19 prevented that game from happening.
But, refusing to be beaten in their mission to help the community, the Buarcos family simply modified their strategy, organising a system by which people could donate food to assist the people who needed it the most.
“We decided to adapt the idea”, explained Cristiana Mano, one of the campaign’s organisers. “The response from everyone involved has been really good”, she added.
