Women's and men's competitions took place in the Spanish city
From the 3rd to 5th May, women’s and men’s teams took to the Spanish sands of Alicante to battle for glory in this year’s edition of Torneo Internacional Alicante City & Beach.
Women
The women’s competition saw Marseille Beach Team, Alicante Sun F.C., CF Maristas, and Sporting Ciudad de Alicante participate. Three victories from three matches meant that Marseille Beach Team became champions in the women’s tournament, scoring an impressive 26 goals in the process.
The French team began the competition with a 4-1 win against CF Maristas, followed by a 7-2 triumph over Alicante Sun F.C and ended their competition with an emphatic 15-1 victory against Sporting Ciudad de Alicante.
Men
The men’s competition was contested by 12 teams, which included a group phase with four groups of three teams and knockout round, as well as a final to decide the champions.
After two knockout rounds, the competition was to be decided by the teams who finished first and second place in Group C, Marseille Beach Team and Copenhagen BSC.
The Danish side got the better of the French team in the group phase with a close 3-2 victory, and Copenhagen BSC came out on top once again against Marseille Beach Team in the final, triumphing 4-1 in the crucial fixture.
The ‘MVP’ of the men’s competition was Marseille Beach Team player Garvi Anes, as Copenhagen BSC’s goalkeeper Gustav Madsen was the ‘Best Goalkeeper’.
