Lokrians pull ahead of groupmates on third day

The group remains tight in Alanya but Pavia Lokrians out in front after big win

Group leaders WFC Zvezda enjoyed a rest day after taking extremely tight victories in their opening matches.

This left the door wide open for Brazilian boosted Pavia Lokrians to shoot to the top of the group with a win, and they did so emphatically.

NorCal could have done the same but the Americans were on the wrong side of a goalfest against the Italians.

Meanwhile Lady Grembach netted an impressive ten goals to down Tokyo Lequios LD, the only side yet to win in the group.

Despite these decisive victories, the group remains open and anything is possible.

Pavia Lokrians 7-1 NorCal BS

The Italians downed American side NorCal on day three in Alanya to go top of the group, thanks to star performances from Brazilian Barbara Colodetti.

In a surprisingly unbalanced match on day three of the World Winners Cup, Pavia Lokrians swept into a 4-0 lead in the opening period against NorCal, who sat joint-top of the group prior to kick-off.

Colodetti netted a brace in the first period, but as the game progressed she took her personal tally to four, and going level in the top scorer race with fellow Brazilian Lorena (Lady Grembach).

Fellow Brazilians, Lele Villar and Dani Barbosa, also got on the scoresheet, pushing the final score to 7-1.

Arsenault managed a late consolation but Lokrians took a second win to move top of the group.

Lady Grembach Lodz 10-2 Tokyo Lequios LD

These two sides were the only ones only to have only played one game so far, and both had lost their previous ties.

But the wide-open nature of the group meant that a win in normal time today would see the victor go level on points with NorCal and group leaders WFC Zvedza, who had a rest day.

Like every other match in the women’s competition so far, Lady Grembach Lodz and Tokyo Lequios LD were neck and neck for much of the game. The first period saw Kushiyama Saki net two for the Tokyo side, but the Poles also scored twice and Katarzyna Zak nudged them ahead before the break.

But from then on it was one-way traffic, and the rampant Grembach upped their game in the following periods, with Brazilian Lorena bagging no less than four goals.

Magulska also got a hat-trick as Lady Grembach eventually finished the game with a 10-2 advantage, going level on points with NorCal (USA) and WFC Zvedza (RUS).
