Last day will decide everything in Santos

Brazil, Japan and Italy have options to claim silverware at the Supercopa das Nações… Only one will prevail

Effective Brazil seals win over Mexico under the heavy rain

After their uncomfortable first game yesterday, Brazil needed a loud and wide win to gain their self-trust back ahead of the decider tomorrow against Italy. And this is exactly what they got today, in their game against Mexico.

The braces by Mauricinho and Fernando DDI had most of the job done for Gilberto’s side, and despite Mexico managed to pull one back late in the third period, that was too little too late to make the hosts dominance tremble.

Nelito, in the last minute of the game added on Brazil’s advantage to round a score that left little room for speculation.

The Verdeamarela, who had no problems in facing the heavy rain Brazil’s climate is not definitely known for, were terrifically effective today. The few goal chances the Azteca allowed were taken advantage of by Gilberto’s lads.

With these three points, Brazil earns the right to fight Italy tomorrow, knowing that only the victory makes them champions of the Supercopa das Naçoes.

Goals: 1-0: Mauricinho, min. 10 (1); 2-0: Fernando DDI, min. 7 (2); 3-0: Fernando DDI, min. 1 (2); 4-0: Mauricinho, min. 3 (3); 4-1: Villa, min. 2 (3); 5-1: Nelito, min. 1 (3);

Japan upset Italy and leaves everything open

The Japanese National Team confirmed today that they are in a great moment as they bent Italy in the second day at the Supercopa das Nações Beach Soccer Santos 2016.

The Samurai, who made things very difficult yesterday for the hosts Brazil, upset the Azzurri today to earn their first points in the competition and mess the whole table up.

Now, if they win Mexico tomorrow, and Italy beats Brazil, they will be the champions of the competition. Everything is now on Brazil’s hands, as they are the only team who do not depend on third-party results.

The 0-2 run in the first period showcased that the Japanese were serious about going all the way in Santos, despite yesterday’s defeat at the penalty kick shootout. Zurlo cut the distance in half before the period was over, but Italy was destined to stay behind the Nippon all game long.

No matter how hard they tried, the terrific defensive spirit by Japan, lead by a magnificent Ozu once again, disarmed all their attempts.

Coming into the third period, the Transalpine were still one goal down, but that little step seemed like an impossible mission. Agostini’s side missed Gori’s and Palmacci’s effectiveness today, and nothing that they tried worked out.

Oba bagged the 1-3 in the last stage of the game, thus securing the win for Mendes’ side. Brazil, Japan and Italy, then, keep options to claim this Supercopa das Nações. This Sunday, we will now who takes the silverware home.

Goals: 0-1: Goto, min. 9 (1); 0-2: Ozu, min. 5 (1); 1-2: Zurlo, min. 1 (1); 1-3: Oba, min. 4 (3)
