The Verdeamarela stay perfect and claim Supercopa das Nações after bending Italy
Hosts Brazil claimed the first ever Supercopa das Nações following a loud win over European giants Italy in Santos.
The hosts used timely attack and sound defence to bend the Azzurri, who, during some minutes, seemed ready to challenge the Brazilian control. But those minutes did not last long enough.
Catarino, Mauricinho and Bokinha had Brazil comfortably in command by mid second period. Italy was not happy with the role they seemed to have been given and reacted to try to change the course of the game. Palmacci and Zurlo pulled to back and got Agostini’s side just one goal down.
But Brazil geared up in the third period to find the best version of themselves and seal the win. Gilberto’s side treated their supporters with amusing beach soccer as they found, once and again, the back of the Italian nets.
The 5-0 run in these last 12 minutes destroyed the Azzurri’s expectations, and confirmed Brazil as the champions of this Supercopa das Nações Beach Soccer 2016!
Goals: 1-0: Catarino, min. 6 (1); 2-0: Mauricinho, min. 10 (2); 3-0: Bokinha, min. 7 (2); 3-1: Palmacci, min. 3 (1); 3-2: Zurlo, min. 1 (2); 4-2: Nelito, min. 7 (3); 5-2: Bokinha, min. 6 (3); 6-2: Lucão, min. 5 (3); 7-2: Nelito, min. 4 (3); 8-2: Mauricinho, min. 0 (3)
Japan run past Mexico and secure second place
Japan claimed the second position in this Supercopa das Nações Beach Soccer after storming past Mexico in their last game in the competition. Unfortunately for the Samurai, Brazil’s win over Italy in the final game of the day prevents them from claiming the Cup.
The Japanese National Team had been giving clear signs of their level during the weekend, not only bending Italy but also fielding a fierce opposition in their first match against the hosts. Today, Mendes’ side confirmed that good sensations, punishing Mexico with a loud win.
It was soon made clear that it was going to be a tough morning for the Azteca side. Ozu, Oba and Akaguma hit during the first stages of the game to make the score 3-0 just three minutes into the game. Tabata hit again before the period was over for the 4-0.
The Mexican side was never able to contend the Nippon inspiration, and goals kept coming.
Two more goals in the second period, and another two in the last leg rounded a loud score that got Japan three more points. With them, Mendes’ lads clinch a laudable second place in this Supercopa das Nações.
