No one has been able to question Sporting de Portugal’s authority in the Portuguese Circuito Nacional de Futebol de Praia, the Club Beach Soccer Competition held this summer in three different Lusitanian cities. The Leoes stepped on the accelerator in the last stage of the competition to secure the Cup and gave no option to any of their rivals on the pursue, specially runner-up Benfica.
The last three games of the league, played this last weekend in Lisbon, became three new victories for Sporting, who have not missed a single point in the whole season. After the goal-fest victories against Setúbal (8-2) and Varzim (12-0), Sporting faced their fiercest menace in the last game: All-time city rivals Benfica, who reached the decisive match only three points down.
But the Leoes paw did not tremble in front of the Aguias, and after a leveled first compasses, the score was 5-2 at the final horn, completing the 7 out of 7 run for star-packed Sporting. Figures speak for themselves about Madjer, Bruno, Belchior and Co.: 48 goals scored in 7 matches with only 9 conceded, 21 points out of 21, Madjer as the tournaments’ top scorer… Not much can be done against such a team…
