The event, to take place at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup stadium between 13 and 15 August, will feature four of the world’s top national teams
August 2021 will mark a new historic moment for women’s beach soccer, with the birth of a brand new competition: The Women’s Intercontinental Beach Soccer Cup. Just like the men’s edition, which has been taking place in Dubai for over a decade now, the Women’s Intercontinental Beach Soccer Cup will feature top class teams from all over the world.
The event will take place at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup stadium in Moscow, between the 13 and 15 of August and, for this first edition, will feature four teams from different confederations, to be announced soon.
Aleksandr Alaev, Football Union of Russia General Secretary, who will host and of course take part in the maiden Women’s Intercontinental Beach Soccer Cup, highlighted how important it is for the country to be involved in a moment like this: “We are happy to be hosting the first edition of such a relevant competition for women’s beach soccer. We have always strongly supported women’s beach soccer and will support it in the future. We are holding and developing national competitions that let us show the great level on an international scale, so it is very special for us to be present and contribute to the women’s game globally.”
In turn, BSWW president, Joan Cuscó, reiterated the commitment Beach Soccer Worldwide maintains to women’s beach soccer: “We have always promised that we would make all efforts to keep increasing the number of women’s competition, and the creation of the Women’s Intercontinental Beach Soccer Cup, a global competition, is a dream we have been pursuing for some seasons. Finally, with the help of our friends at the Football Union of Russia and FIFA, we will be able to make it happen, at the very World Cup stadium, no less. We cannot wait for it. It means a key step for the sport”, he said.
As mentioned, the Women’s Intercontinental Beach Soccer Cup will take place just days before the beginning of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, which will be held from 19 to 29 of August in Moscow.
