Group B set for a decisive finish, while Ukraine seal a place in the women’s semifinals
Day 3 of the Euro Beach Soccer League Superfinals in Viareggio delivered high drama, as the men’s Group B remains wide open with Spain, Ukraine, and Switzerland all still in contention for the semifinals. In the women’s category, Ukraine confirmed their spot in the last four with a strong performance.
Group B
Switzerland win 6-2 against Denmark
Denmark struck first in the opening period as Ryding found the net, giving his side a 1-0 lead while Switzerland struggled to settle into the game.
The Swiss regrouped in the second period, with Steinemann scoring twice to turn the score around. However, Jensen equalised late in the period for Denmark, sending the game into the final break level at 2-2.
In the last period, Switzerland took full control. Hodel netted twice, an own goal from Denmark widened the gap, and Knöpfli added a last-minute strike to complete a commanding 6-2 victory for the Swiss.
Spain win 5-4 against Ukraine
Spain started strongly, with Brian striking twice in the opening minute to give his side an early 2-0 lead in the first period.
D. Ardil extended the advantage immediately after the restart, but Ukraine hit back in style. Samoilenko, Maksymets, and a brace from Yarmak turned the game around, putting Ukraine 4-3 ahead heading into the final period.
In the closing stage, Spain mounted a decisive comeback. D. Ardil struck again to level the score before Suli Batis sealed the narrow 5-4 victory for the Spanish side.
Women
Ukraine win 4-2 against Italy
The opening period ended goalless, with both teams unable to make their chances count.
Ukraine broke the deadlock in the second period through Prokopenko and goalkeeper Terekh, but Italy responded quickly with goals from Adami and Pisa to level the game 2-2 before the break.
In the final period, Shulha stepped up for Ukraine, scoring twice to secure a hard-fought 4-2 victory.
