Opening day action sets the tone, as teams make early statements


Switzerland, Belarus, Portugal, and hosts Spain open with victories, while Ukraine and Spain also claim wins in the Women’s EBSL.

MEN
Group A
Switzerland win 7-5 against Poland

The opening match between Switzerland and Poland in Group A began dramatically, as Switzerland’s own goal handed Poland an early lead before Błaszczyk doubled the advantage moments later. Hodel pulled one back for the Swiss side, but Pietrasiak restored Poland’s two-goal cushion. Borer struck seconds before the first break to reduce the deficit to 3–2.

Switzerland turned the game around in the second period with three unanswered goals through Hodel and a brace from Ott to take a 5–3 lead. Poland responded strongly as Błaszczyk grabbed his second of the match before Brochocki levelled the contest at 5–5 heading into the final period.

Hodel completed his hat-trick immediately after the restart to put Switzerland back in front, and Steinemann added another to secure a thrilling 7–5 victory for the Swiss side.

Spain win 6-1 against Lithuania
Brain and Chiky Ardil starred in the opening period as Spain raced into a 2–0 lead, giving the Lithuanian side little chance to settle into the contest.

Spain continued their dominance early in the second period through goals from Kuman and Suli Batis to extend the advantage. Giedraitis pulled one back for Lithuania, but Kuman struck again to restore Spain’s four-goal cushion and a 5–1 lead heading into the final period.

In the final period, Suli Batis added a brilliant late goal seconds before the final whistle to complete a convincing 6–1 victory for the hosts on opening day.

Group B
Belarus win 10-2 against Türkiye

Belarus made a flying start in the opening Group B match, racing into a commanding 5–0 lead through goals from Hapon, Kanstant, Augustov, and a brace from Ryabko, while Türkiye struggled to respond in the opening period.

The second period saw both sides find the net once, with Drozd scoring for Belarus before Serkan pulled one back for Türkiye, leaving the score at 6–1 heading into the final period.

Belarus continued their dominance in the third period as Chaikouski struck early and Hapon added another to extend the advantage. Hazar managed a second goal for Türkiye, but further efforts from Hardzetski and Drozd completed an emphatic 10–2 victory for Belarus.

Portugal win 3-0 against Czechia
Portugal made a perfect start against Czechia, with Bê Martins finding the net in the opening minute before Tim doubled the advantage to give the Portuguese side a comfortable 2–0 lead heading into the first break.

Midway through the second period, Jordan added a third goal for Portugal as Czechia continued to struggle to find a way back into the contest.

No goals were recorded in the final period despite determined efforts from Czechia. Portugal remained solid defensively and held on to secure a convincing 3–0 victory.

WOMEN
Ukraine win 4-1 against England
Ukraine made a strong start in the opening period, with Shulha leading the charge as she struck twice to put her side firmly in control. England struggled to find rhythm early on and went into the break trailing 2-0.

England responded in the second period through Meiwald, who pulled one back to shift the momentum slightly and give her side renewed hope. Despite improved pressure, Ukraine held their structure well to maintain a narrow 2-1 lead heading into the final period.

Shulha completed her hat-trick midway through the closing period to reassert Ukraine’s dominance, before Klipachenko added a fourth to seal a convincing 4-1 victory. England pushed late on but were unable to break through a disciplined Ukrainian defence.

Spain win 5-1 against Czechia
Spain delivered a controlled performance in a goalless opening period against Czechia, with both sides struggling to convert chances despite steady build-up play, leaving the match finely poised at the break.

The second period saw Spain take full command as Jessi broke the deadlock midway through to open the scoring. An unfortunate own goal from Czechia doubled the lead before Campoy and Manau extended the advantage further, sending Spain into the final period with a dominant 4-0 cushion.

Czechia showed brief resistance early in the third period when Portychová pulled one back almost immediately after the restart. However, Spain quickly regained control, shutting down further threats before Manau added her second late on to complete a convincing 5-1 victory.
