Three Lions score four to defeat hosts in opening match of CFA Belt and Road Championship
Leo Martins secured a hat-trick for Mario Narciso’s Portugal, helping them to hand a decisive beating to Czech Republic, while an Aaron Clarke brace helped England take an early victory against their Chinese hosts.
England got off the mark almost immediately when James Temple found the net after just a minute of play. A matter of seconds later, Aaron Clarke doubled the advantage as the opening period ended with the Three Lions enjoying a 2-0 lead.
Wan C reduced the deficit in the second period but Cameron O’Rourke was on hand to restore the two-goal cushion. Clarke grabbed his second as Hao MH netted again for China, but it wasn’t enough to bring the hosts back into the match as England claimed an early three points.
The Czechs held the former world champions to a close first period, in which they momentarily lead with goals from Jakub Pekarek and Trampota. But in the second the Portuguese upped their game as Majder, Coimbra and Leo Martins each bagged a brace, while Belchior also got his name onto the scoresheet.
In the final period, Leo Martins completed his hat-trick as Jordan Santos and goalkeeper Petrony scored in the last minute to make it ten. Two Czech goals from Kortvelyesi and Klima took the final score to 4-10.
Following their early defeat, Martin Dlouhy’s men will have to regroup too take on England on the second day, while Portugal will face hosts China.
