Marcelo Mendes’ side move to six points in style with victory against Malaysia.
Japan continue to set the bar at the Thailand 5s Beach Soccer Championship in Bangkok as they recorded their second win of the competition in style – hammering Malaysia 15-0 on Tuesday.
Following an opening-day success against Hungary at the Hua Mak Sports Complex in the Thai capital, Marcelo Mendes’ men turned on the style against Malaysia to move outright top going into the final group game on Wednesday.
Goalkeeper Shingo Terukina – who made his 100th international appearance against Hungary – was on target a day later while Takuya Akaguma grabbed a hat-trick alongside braces from Masato Suzuki, Takasuke Goto and Masayiki Komaki.
The top two teams after the three group matches will contest the final and it is Thailand who are in pole position to take on the Japanese after they moved to four points thanks to a 1-1 draw with Hungary.
Chokdee Kaneraew’s opener was cancelled out by Viktor Fekete in a low-scoring contest that lifts Hungary off the bottom and gives them faint hope of reaching the final.
Tomorrow sees Japan meet Thailand while Hungary take on Malaysia.
