Copa America remains in Brazilian hands

The hosts seize their tenthe honour after bending Argentina (10-1), as Mexico ends up in third position following a narrow win over El Salvador (5-4)

Brazil wanted nobody to challenge their amusingly immaculate run in the Copa America, and they made it really clear in the decider today against Argentina. A loud 10-1 got the hosts prevailing over the Albiceleste in Recife, thus securing the tenth title in a row.

It was soon made clear that Brazilians were not thinking of letting the Cup go at home soil. Negão’s side put the Argentinean goal into siege, but none of their efforts found the albicelete’s back of the net. At the beginning of the second period, though, Bokinha managed to open the score. And after that, the Brazilian goals fell one after the other, leaving the Argentineans helpless against an uncontestable dominion by the hosts.

Hit after hit, the Brazilian advantage was getting wider and wider. It was not until the last minutes of the game that Argentina could find Mão’s nets. The score was already 9-0, so not much could be done at that point. Datinha closed the score just seconds afterwards with the 10-1, confirming a tyrannical victory for the Verdeamarela.

The 57th Brazilian victory in 58 matches against Argentina meant the confirmation, together with the gold in the Copa das Naços two weeks ago, that the new breed of Brazilian talent is ready to fight for the highest honours. Junior Negão is following step by step his plan of renewing the National Side, bringing a perfect combination between youngsters and experienced stars. Young diamonds such as Lucão, Mauricinho, Bokinha or Datinha have begun paying back the trust the National coach has put on them.

Mexico clinches third
In the game for the third position, just one goal had the bronze flying to Mexican hands (5-4). The hat-trick by Marín made the difference in a truly balanced game, in which Rodríguez’s and Zamolginy rounded the Azteca records. The hits by Elmer, Abraham and Darwin proved not enough for the Cuscatleco, who ended the competition in the fourth place.
