Club Presidente Hayes are CONMEBOL Libertadores Fútbol Playa champions

They become the first non-Brazilian side to win the competition


Club Presidente Hayes from Paraguay were crowned undefeated champions of the CONMEBOL Libertadores Fútbol Playa for the first time in history, becoming the first non-Brazilian team to conquer the title.

In the final, held at the Arena Cavancha, located on the beaches in the city of Iquique, Chile, the ‘Fortín de Tacumbú’ of Club Presidente Hayes defeated Brazil’s, Sampaio Correa in a match filled with emotions that had to be decided in extra time.

In the other match of the day, Acassuso defeated Alto Hospicio to secure the third place.

Club Presidente Hayes triumphed 6-5 over Sampaio Correa in a thrilling final, claiming their first continental title.

In the early minutes of the match, Jefferson, the goalkeeper of the Brazilian side, emerged as a prominent figure by denying the first goal-scoring opportunities for the Paraguayans. However, it was Sampaio Correa who opened the scoring through a goal from Sikinha at with four minutes played, and he scored once again to increase the lead with a header with two minutes remaining of the opening period. Seconds later, Néstor Medina pulled one back for Club Presidente Hayes, with the first period ending with a 2-1 scoreline.

The second period commenced with the Paraguayan team equalising, thanks to a stunning bicycle kick from Medina in the first minute of the period. Then, just a minute apart, Milcíades Medina extended the lead with a powerful left-footed shot from midfield and Captain, Carlos Benítez made it 4-2, concluding the second phase of play.

In the final period, Club Presidente Hayes held on to the result for as long as they could, but the Brazilian side turned up the pressure. Thanks to another spectacular goal from Sikinha with five minutes left on the clock, and an unfortunate own-goal from Benítez with two minutes left, the match was tied.

Benítez scored the fifth goal for the Paraguayans with only 42 seconds on the clock, but Sikinha found the back of the net once again to equalise with a free-kick with 28 seconds remaining, taking the match to extra-time.

In the three minutes of additional time, victory was sealed for the Paraguayans as Milcíades Medina scored the final goal of the match with only 29 seconds left to play, securing the title for Club Presidente Hayes for the first time in history.

Acassuso (ARG) 4-3 Alto Hospicio (CHI) – 3rd Place
Argentinian side, Acassuso defeated Chilean team, Alto Hospicio 4-3, securing third place in the CONMEBOL Libertadores Fútbol Playa 2022.

Federico López’s brace in the first and final periods, alongside goals from Juan Sicilia in the last minute of the first period, and Lucas Medero scoring in the final 12 minutes, earned the bronze medal for Acassuso. Alto Hospicio managed to reduce the deficit, as Diego Santelices struck after 23 minutes had been played, as Daniel Duran and Héctor Tobar scored in the last period, but it was too late for the Chilean side.
