Catania lift their 5th Italian Supercoppa

This victory makes the club the most successful beach soccer team in Italian history

Catania have won the Supercoppa in Italy after beating old rivals Happy Car Sambenedettese in the final on Sunday.

The Etna club claimed the honour for the fifth time, their 11th major trophy, by beating Sambenedettese four goals to one in the last match at Cirò Marina’s Beach Arena.

On the Catania roster were many recognisable names, including Azzurri strike partnership Gabriele Gori and Emmanuelle Zurlo, as well as reinforcements from Brazil, Portugal and Germany in the form of Bokinha, Be Martins and Christian Biermann.

Zurlo scored twice in the final to help Matteo Marrucci’s men to the podium with the 4-1 victory.

Coordinator of the LND Beach Soccer Department Roberto Desini presented the award to the champions, and commented that, “beach Soccer is not only a spectacle sport but it is also an example of fairness, it is an atmosphere of joy. People feel it, especially after the difficult time we have experienced, and that is why it has returned to fill the stands of the Arenas, always respecting the rules.”

Other news coming from the Italian beach soccer scene is that an historic Under 20’s championship will take place in Mugnano di Napoli from 14 to 18 July, showcasing the commitment to the development of beach soccer in the nation.
