Casa Benfica remain on top after three matches

SC Braga remain tied with the leaders on 8 points after an emphatic win on Sunday in Buarcos

The Portuguese Elite Beach Soccer League touched down for a single matchday in Buarcos this weekend, where Casa Benfica Loures continue to lead the race after defeating Varzim by 10 goals to three.

But Sunday also saw another win for SC Braga, who remain hot on the heels of Casa Benfica after they beat the Nazaré side ACD Sótão 8-0. Both clubs now have eight points after having dropped one in extra time wins in the first round.

In the other matches, local side AD Buarcos beat CD Chaves narrowly, edging a tight 4-3 contest to claim their second win of the campaign, and an equally close contest was fought between the defending champions Sporting and GR Amigos Paz, where the 2020 league winners just scraped a 2-1 win.

This victory means that the Amigos remain bottom of the league along with ACD Sótão, as neither teams has yet managed to register a win.

Sporting now sit on six points, two behind Braga and Casa Benfica, and will be keen to make up lost ground when the Elite Beach Soccer League returns on Saturday 29 May.

In the next matchday, Sporting will go up against Varzim, Braga will meet joint-bottom GR Amigos Paz, while the other team yet to win in the league so far, ACD Sótão, will take on Chaves. The last game of the day will see leaders Casa Benfica face AD Buarcos.

The league will consist of 14 matchdays played in eight different locations around Portugal. Matches will be broadcast on Canal 11. For full details of the Portuguese Elite Beach Soccer League, click here.
