They beat Acassuso on penalties when the sides were drawn 5-5 after extra time
Buenos Aires City are the new champions of the 2021 championship in Argentina!
The game had to be defined by penalties after the clubs were still tied in stalemate of 5-5 after normal and extra time.
The goals for the champion team were netted by Azimonti, M. Ponzetti (2), L. Ponzetti and González, while for Acassuso’s scorers were Benaducci (2), Sirico, Medero (2).
The teams reached this final stage after defeating Racing and Argentino (R), respectively, in the semi-finals.
Buenos Aires City and Acassuso qualified first and third in the Regular Phase of the tournament and thus progressed to the quarter-finals of the playoffs, where they had to overcome Ituzaingó and Barracas Central respectively to reach the semi-finals.
This is the sixth edition of the local beach soccer tournament, from the Pre-Libertadores Tournament of 2017 to the Transition 2021 -including the previous 2019-2020 Championship, interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic before the end of the Apertura Tournament-. Acassuso is the current champion.
In the previous one, the matches corresponding to the Repechage Phase were played, with the following results:
Tigre 5 – 3 Ferro Carril Oeste
Ituzaingó 4 – 3 Deportivo Riestra
Barracas Central and Huracán went directly to the semi-finals, as their rivals, Atlético Zelaya and Juventud Unida, respectively, did not take part.
The winner of the Repechage Phase will qualify for the 2021 National Championship.
