Brazil and Uruguay top groups ahead of CONMEBOL semi-finals

The Qualifier hosts will play Colombia in the knockouts while Uruguay face Paraguay


The final matches of the group stage were contended at Barra de Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro, as Brazil and Uruguay remain undefeated to top their groups.

Saturday’s semi-finals will see Brazil play Colombia while Uruguay face Paraguay, as the first two sides from South America will seize places at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.

In the last game in Group A, Catarino scored a hat-trick as Brazil defeated Paraguay by eight goals to three, and Uruguay put three past Colombia to top Group B.

Chile and Argentina fought a tight battle which ended in a penalty-spot victory for La Albiceleste, who finished third in the group, while Peru denied Ecuador their last chance at points with a 5-1 victory.

Friday is a rest day, and the action will resume on Saturday when two places at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup will be clinched.

The CONMEBOL Beach Soccer Championship – acting at the Qualifier for the World Cup – is being held from from 26 June to 4 July at Barra de Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
