The men’s and women’s Blue Teams claimed another NBSL title at Fort Lauderdale
Many of the biggest names in US beach soccer were present at yet another successful National Beach Soccer League (NBSL) competition, which took place in Florida this weekend.
Fort Lauderdale hosted the NBSL Qualifier ID Cup from Friday 30 April to Sunday 2 May, and once again it was the Blue Team, in both the men’s and women’s categories, that claimed victory.
Goalkeeper Chris Toth captained the victorious men’s Blues, alongside national teammate David Mondragon, and they met their captain from the US national team, Nick Perera, in the final.
Perera, who won the Golden Toe (Top Scorer), was representing the Pink Team and the final finished in dramatic fashion, with the Blues snatching victory from the penalty spot after a 2-2 drawn after Extra Time.
Blue’s keeper Toth won both the Golden Glove and MVP after his performances throughout the weekend, and the Rising Star went to William Lobato (Blue Team).
The same colours met in the women’s final showdown, where Christi Yount, another skipper/goalkeeper from the national side, lead the charge in a 5-3 victory over the Pink Team, captained by Luisa Meza, and spearheaded by Stars & Stripes international Samantha Witteman (Top Scorer World Beach Games – Qualifier El Salvador 2019).
Witteman claimed the Golden Toe, while teammate Yount won the Golden Glove, and another US international, Kilee Quigley, won the MVP award. Savanah Berry (Purple Team) claimed the Rising Star award.
