The Mundialito ends up in Brazilian hands despite the hosts victory in the last match of the competition
Winning Brazil is nothing taking place every day. This is why it must be difficult for Portugal to cope with the bitter sensation after the referee blew his whistle in the last match of the 2011 edition of the Beach Soccer Worldwide Mundialito. Due to the triple tie with Mexico, all of them with six points, Ze Miguel’s side saw the cup flee to Brazilian hands although beating them 4-2, in this new chapter of the battle between the two giants from both ends of the Atlantic Ocean.
Portugal needed a four-goal difference to seize the trophy, besides all their concentration and their spirit. These latter two, they lacked not. But they could not accomplish the first of the requirements, although getting really close to. With three strokes, the Lusitanian team seemed to be inching towards that amazing success. Coimbra, Madjer and Belchior, Mundialito’s Top-scorer and MVP, pushed their team to just a one-goal distance to frenzy, but, in just one minute, Brazil ruined all expectations. Benjamin and Andre, within the same 40 seconds, made it 3-2, forcing Portugal to achieve three more goals in the scarce 6 remaining minutes…
Although Jordan boosted the hosts expectations little afterward, the ball did not kiss Mão’s nets again, and the current World Champions reedited their last year triumph to add their name to the competition’s records for the 12th time.
Goals : 1-0 : Coimbra, min. 9 (1) ; 2-0 : Madjer, min. 3 (1) ; 3-0 : Belchior, min. 9 (3) ; 3-1 : Benjamin, min. 6 (3) ; 3-2 : Andre, min. 6 (3) ; 4-2 : Jordan, min. 3 (3)
Mexico forces goal-average sentence
Mexico played their role in the fight, bending France in the first match of this last day in Portimao to collect their sixth points, which ended up forcing the competition to be resolved through the goal average of the three contenders. Although only Portugal and Brazil could pass sentence, the Azteca went into their game against France in a great determination, and by the last minute of the first period, they were already 3-0 ahead. Managing the game with authority, the Mexican’s kept Les Bleus always far in the score, and it was not until the very last stage of the game that two goals for France softened a bit what seemed to be destined to be a loud result.
Goals : 1-0 : Plata, min. 10 (1) ; 2-0 : Cervantes, min. 5 (1) ; 3-0 : Cervantes, min. 5 (1) ; 3-1 : Samoun, min. 0 (1) ; 4-1 : Cervantes, min. 9 (2) ; 5-1 : Navarrete, min. 10 (2) ; 6-1 : Plata, min. 9 (3) ; 6-2 : Samoun, min. 8 (3) ; 7-2 : A.
