Leaders stay the same but many changes and exciting action occurred all weekend in Yverdon
Yverdon-les-Bains hosted a Suzuki Swiss Beach Soccer League stage for the first time. The Swiss league convoy made its sixth stop of the season in Yverdon Springs and the sight provided spectacular entertainment, on and off the sand, fantastic goals, hard-nosed defense, and a few surprises as well.
The top three squads, Basel, Sable Dancers, and Beselland, all won both their matches and a draw and a win was enough to move Zurich into fourth place. The previously ranked fourth place team, the Havana Shots Aargau, won one match and lost the other, their upset loss dropped them from fourth to fifth place. An inspired performance by the Sable Dancers gave them a 23-3 victory over Basileia. BSC Solothurn played in the two most exciting matches of the weekend, drawing one against Zurich 4-4, and narrowly squeaking by the Winti Panthers 4-3 in the other. The win and the draw moved Solothurn into 7th place.
One of the surprises over the weekend was the realization that the Bern Sable Dancers have the most prolific offense in the league. They have scored 127 goals in the season and that means that they score almost 12 goals per game. That number is above the average for Beach Soccer in general, making the Swiss team one of the most exciting teams to watch not just in the country but anywhere. Also, a Tahitian National Team player, who will be playing in the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Tahiti 2013 for the host nation, has surpassed the reigning Swiss league MVP, Noel Ott in goals scored this season.
Every stage in the Suzuki Swiss Beach Soccer league has provided more and more excitement and with four stages left, it means the stakes will be raised in every remaining game leading up to the final in Spiez from the 24th-25th of August. The next location for the Swiss league will be Neuchâtel from the 3rd-4th of August.
