Argentina and Venezuela earn first win in Peru, as Bolivia suffer first defeat
The fierce fight at the tight South American pool was clearly showcased yesterday at the Copa America Fútbol Playa Perú 2018, in a day in which two of the games went into the penalty shootout, and the other two were decided by a narrow difference.
The first game of the afternoon in Lima had Argentina prevailing over Chile for their first points in the competition. The Albiceleste edged La Roja with a tight final 6-5, and get back in the fight after their tough debut against the fearsome Brazil.
In the second game of the day, Venezuela ended Bolivia’s perfect run in the competition to secure first win. Following yesterday’s defeat to Uruguay, Vinotinto reacted against the tournament’s biggest surprise and clinch the points thanks to the efforts by José Semprun (2), Alexander Millan, Maxel Perdomo, Peter Rodríguez and Alberto Prado.
Later on, Paraguay had to struggle to prevail over combative Colombia. Guga’s lads had began their spell in the Copa America with a heavy win over Chile, but faced yesterday a way tougher resistance. The Guaarani could never bend the Cafeteros during the regular time, and only a save by goalkeeper Saúl Gonzalez in the penalty kick shootout got them the win.
In the last game of the day, Ecuador and Uruguay forced each other into the penalty kick shootout, as well, after a terrific strike exchange. One goal on each end during the extra time had both sides taking the 9-meter roulette. From the spot, the Charrúa proved better aimed, and sealed the point at stake to follow Bolivia in Group A.
