Areguá claim Paraguay U20 Apertura

International striker Milciades Medina was key for the green side to their first championship

A 4-2 win over Ypané in the final saw Areguá claim the second edition of the Paraguayan Campeonato Apertura U20, held at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2019 stadium “Los Pynandi” over the past week.

International forward Milciades Medina, who already caused sensation for the Guaraní National Team at the last FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Russia 2021 alongside his twin brother Nestor, was the key man in the competition, clinching both the MVP and the Top Scorer awards. His opposing goalkeeper, Alan Rodas (Ypané), was named the best between the sticks.

The event, organised by the APF, and involving 14 teams and 220 players, will now be continued by the Torneo Clausura, to take place in San Bernardino in February. The winners of both the Apertura and Clausura will play the Superfinal, where they will be crowned Paraguayan U20 National Champions, taking a crown still at Puerta del Lago’s hands.

These were the results of the last day of the competition:

Garden Club Paraguayo 6-5 San Bernardino (7th place)
San Antonio 8-6 31 de Agosto (5th place)
Cnel. Escurra 6-5 Libertad (3rd place)
Areguá 4-2 Ypané (FINAL)
