Alan to coach the Portuguese Women’s National Beach Soccer Team

The former Portuguese international will lead the team at Superfinal in Figueira da Foz next week

The FPF (Federação Portuguesa Futebol) have announced that on the Alan Cavalcanti will assume the technical command of Portugal’s Women’s National Beach Soccer Team.

The former Portuguese international, who retired from the National Team in 2018 after nearly 500 caps, will lead the women’s team that will participate in the Superfinal of the Euro Beach Soccer League, to be held between 9 and 12 September, in Figueira da Foz.

England (9 September), Switzerland (10 September) and Czech Republic (11 September) await the return of the Portuguese national team, in this competition organised by Beach Soccer Worldwide.

This appointment of Alan comes after the first edition of the Portuguese Women’s Beach Soccer Championship, which ended with the victory of ACD Sótão. The mission is to provide more and more opportunities and space for women’s teams and players, increasing the number of national and international competitions.

Speaking to fpf.pt, Alan was very pleased to confirm the announcement: “It is with great pleasure and pride that I return to the FPF and the National Team. After a 20-year career as a player, this new project in women’s beach soccer came up. I’ll try to use all my experience as a player – and what I’ve learned over the years – to positively teach and guide the players,” he assured.

The national coach also analysed the evolution of the female aspect of beach soccer: “We are taking the first steps. We want to continue and provide more and more experiences for the players. The Portuguese athlete is technically very good, we just need to transfer that onto the sand, because almost all of them come from futsal or football. Basically, it’s the same process that happened in the men’s team when I arrived 20 years ago,” he added.

Between 9 and 12 September, the Quinas will participate for the first time in a final phase of the European League, and on home sand, in Figuera da Foz: “It’s an ambitious project. We have to go step by step and in a few days’ time we already have the first game of the European League Superfinal. All of the players selected have come from the national championship and I think that with a good job we can have good results in this first experience,” highlighted Alan.
