The tournament’s opening match day began with Costa Rica’s Las Costeñas defeating the local team San Marcelino 6-4. The Costa Ricans were always in control of the match, with Lee scoring a brace.

In the same group, Santa Cruz got off to a strong start against Barra de Santiago, leading 3-1 with nine minutes to go. However, a hat-trick from the inspired Irma Cordero turned the game around, and the Salvadoran side triumphed 4-3.

In Group B, the defending champions São Pedro appeared to have the match under control, leading 4-2 with just over five minutes remaining. However, Botafogo (USA) refused to give up and brought drama to the final moments of the game. Garzon equalised with a minute and a half left, but Noele quickly restored the Brazilian lead. Then, with just one second remaining, Hunter scored a dramatic equaliser, seemingly sending the match into extra time. But then, the game’s heroine, Tai, fired a shot from midfield in the dying seconds, completing her hat-trick and securing the 3 points for São Pedro.

In an all-Salvadoran clash, UES defeated Costa Del Sol 7-3, with Oray, Perez, and Calderón all scoring twice.
