Boca Gdansk win the Polish beach soccer league

Boosted by Spanish firepower the local side beat FC10 Zgierz in the final on Sunday

After losing two Polish league finals in as many years, Boca Gdansk are finally beach soccer champions of the country!

Edu Suarez and Antonio from the Spanish national team, as well as Swiss keeper Elliott Mounoud (also Spanish born) played a big part in Boca winning their first league title.

In the final, the La Roja representation had to face their own Llorenç Gomez, who was playing for FC10 Zgierz, but the local Gdansk side came out on top, winning the match 6-3.

There were many other top beach soccer players present in the tournament, alongside the stars from the Polish beach soccer team, there was Portuguese representation from Leo and Be Martins and Andre Lourenco, who played for SAP Sopot, a new club who burst onto the scene by winning the Polish Cup a few weeks ago.

German talisman Christian Biermann and the Azzurri’s Gabriele Gori played shoulder to shoulder for Euro Winners Cup finalists, KP Lodz.

The Lodz side were many people’s favourites going into the tournament, having performed so well at the 2019 Euro Winners Cup, but they were downed at the penultimate hurdle by FC10 Zgierz, losing the semi-final by seven goals to five.

In the second semi-final, SAP Sopot lost to Boca Gdansk 7-8 in an incredibly tight game where each goal was immediately answered by a reply from the opposition. KP Lodz came third and they controlled the game against SAP Sopot easily to win 5-2.

Boca Gdansk’s Jakub Bistula was awarded the MVP prize, while the Top Scorer trophy went back to Spain with Llorenç Gomez (FC 10 Zgierz). The runners-up also claimed the Best Goalkeeper of the competition in Krystian Karolak.
