The president of the European Olympic Committee highlights “Beach Soccer is one of the most innovative sports in the European Games”
Patrick Hickey, president of the European Olympic Committee was present today at the Beach Soccer stadium in Baku, and confirmed all the expectations he had on beach soccer, as he shared in his conversation with Beach Soccer Worldwide’s Executive Vice-president, Joan Cusco. Alex Soriano, beach soccer technical delegate in these European Games, together with Farid Novruzi and Farid Akhundov, president and general manager of the Azerbaijan Beach Soccer Association, were also with them.
One of the main points Hickey stressed in this conversation was that “beach soccer is one of the most innovative sports in these European Games, bringing in Young people, fresh ideas, and a whole new set of spectacle”.
With these conditionings, the EOC president highlighted that “beach soccer deserves to be in the Olympic Games”, at the time he explained that beach soccer needs to be in the next editions of the European Games, coming in four years.
Next steps, both Hickey and Cusco agreed, is to keep working to build up a solid women beach soccer circuit, to provide the basis for the growth of the sport on equal terms both for men and for women.
