Brazil and Argentina top groups as hosts bend Colombia and Uruguay gets surprised in South American Beach Games opener
Guga’s Brazil did not hesitate in their debut in the II Juegos Suramericanos de Playa (II South American Beach Games), and firmly confirmed their favourites condition after rolling over Peru. The loud 10-1 left little room for doubt at an amazingly vivid and crowded stadium in Manta, to contribute to a dream kick-off matchday to the games. The Brazilian players shared the prominence of goal scoring, and only Bruno Xavier, with a double, bagged a bigger booty than teammates Anderson, André, Dino, Fernando DDI, Jorginho, Sidney and Souza. Only the goalkeepers Mao and William failed to contribute to the netting torrent in the Verdeamarela ranks.
The second of the South American superpowers, Argentina, also achieved a consistent victory against the third continental representative in the last FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, Venezuela (5-1). After managing a 2-0 advantage in the first period, thanks to De Ezeyza and Vivas, the path turned smoothly downhill for the Albiceleste. Fernandez’s hit when the score signaled 3-0 could do little harm to the Argentineans, who clinched the points with two new goals.
Things were not that loose for hosts Ecuador, who needed an extra time hit by Mario Anava to bag their first points in the competition. Colombia presented a fierce resistance, but La Tri ended up following Argentina’s steps in Group A.
In turn, Uruguay experienced the other side of the coin, seeing how their bad fortune has not left them yet. It was a good opportunity for Rosa’s team to forget the stroke of being sidelined from last World Cup with a victory over Paraguay, but the Guaraní were not for following this script and two doubles by Echeverría and Riveros secured the points for their side.
