Gigante da Colina run past Sport Recife in the final (6-2) and becomes the only Brazilian team to earn National glory twice
From today on, Vasco da Gama will boast the honour of having been the first club to reedit the champions title in the Copa de Brasil Beach Soccer. The Vascaínos bent Sport Recife in the final of the championship, and recovered the cup Flamengo had snatched them in the 2013 edition.
Sport Recife, who had got to the final of the Brazilian National Championship were faced to a tough and determined opponent. The Carioca side had nothing else in their minds that forgetting last season’s upset and bag the gold once again.
In their third final in four years, the Trem-Bala da Areia hit the sand of the Complexo Turístico da Ponta Negra wanting to secure their chances the sooner the better. Internationals Bueno and Bokinha got things rolling for Vasco, with the 2-0 in the first stage of the first period. Fernando DDI tried to lead Recife’s reaction, but his effort found a stronger reaction by the Carioca side: From 2-1 to 4-1. Andrezinho hit back in the first seconds of the last leg, trying to tell his teammates that it was still possible. But Vasco da Gama were thinking exactly the opposite, as Lucão, with two goals, set clear.
The final 6-2 confirmed Vasco’s victory, a reward to the terrific job the Gigante da Colina has been doing in the last years, investing in formation, beach soccer growth and national talent. The results, both in the Copa Brasil and the Mundialito de Clubes, are paying off..
