The country’s national competition begins on Thursday in Montevideo.
The 2018 Uruguayan Beach Soccer League gets underway on Thursday, with Club Malvin seeking to defend their title in Montevideo.
Malvin – who finished second at the recent Copa Libertadores as Uruguay’s representatives – will go up against 11 other sides in the battle for the title at the Estadio Arenas del Plata over the coming weeks.
With the draw still to be made, the action begins on Thursday as the 12 teams are divided into three groups of four in the qualification phase.
From there, the tournament moves into the regular stages prior to the grand final on Sunday, February 11th.
The overall winner will then represent the country at the Copa Libertadores, which sees the best teams from all the South American nations go head to head.
Malvin gained a creditable second-place finish in Asunción late last year, going down to Brazilian heavyweights Vasco da Gama 8-5 in the final.
