UAE and Japan join the best eight

Final outcome of the quarterfinals to be defined in last group stage matchday, with two berths still to be taken

Qatar capture last points at stake after extra time win

Kuwait and Qatar brought on a tireless fight for the first and last points they could bag in these Asian Beach Games 2014. Despite both of them had no chances to advance to quarterfinals, the two teams fought spiritedly for a prize they had not been able to seize thus far. And after a terribly balanced fight, those points flew to Qatari hands, after the Nenem-coached side proved stronger and more focused during extra time.

Since the beginning, it was made clear that no one would have things easy today. Every time Qatar took the advantage in the score, their efforts were neutralized by the
Al Azraq, who did not want any distance between them and their opponents. Al Sharqi’s 2-3, with just one minute remaining, seemed the winner for the Qatari, but Hussein fired a free kick home in the last seconds and sent the game into extra time. In that additional 3 minutes, though, Qatar was superior to their opponent, better settled and perfectly knowing how and when to do harm. Jafal, with two goals, secured the victory for his team, who will not leave Phuket with empty hands.

Goals: 0-1: Idrees, min. 9 (1); 1-1: Taqoub, min. 2 (1); 1-2: Al Sharqi, min. 6 (2); 2-2: Hajetah, min. 4 (2); 2-3: Al Sharqi, min. 1 (3); 3-3: Hussain, min. 0 (3); 3-4: Jafal, min. 1 (et); 3-5: Jafal, min. 0 (et)

UAE runs past Malaysia to secure berth in quarterfinals

It took just one game for the United Arab Emirates to seal their go-through to next round of this Asian Beach Games Phuket 2014. The Emirati beat Malaysia to define the two teams going to quarterfinals in this group D: Japan, who beat the Malays in the second day of competition, and themselves, leaving Malaysia at the bottom of the table, with 0 points.

A 4-0 run in the first period left things fairly unbalanced for Guga’s side already, with two goals by Ali Karim, another one by Alhammadi, and the first of Salem today. Malaysia tryed to bounce back, scoring two early goals in the opening of the second frame, but the efforts by Kairul Azizi and Mohammed Zaharim were far not enough for the Tigers. UAE retook control, and two more goals finalized the game. Malaysia goes home now, and UAE and Japan will fight tomorrow to be the best team in the group.

Goals: 1-0: Alhammadi, min. 11 (1); 2-0: Salem, min. 9 (1); 3-0: Ali Karim, min. 2 (1); 4-0: Ali Karim, min. 0 (1); 4-1: Kairul Azizi, min. 11 (2); 4-2: Mohammed Zaharim, min. 10 (2); 5-2: Adel, min. 2 (2); 6-2: Salem, min. 4 (3)

Uzbekistan upset Bahrain and shake up group C

Uzbekistan got things really tight in group C, after a thrilling win against Bahrain that leaves everyone in the group with three points. All can qualify to the quarterfinals stage, but all can be sent home tomorrow, too.

Bahrain was seemingly keeping things well under control in the first two periods, but a great reaction by the Uzbeks in the last stage of the game, with four goals, changed things drastically. Luck turned its back onto Bahrain when Al Doseri sent the ball to the back of his own net, and that triggered the Uzbek reaction. Midway half that last stage, two goals by Abdurazzakov turned the score upside down, and despite Al Mugahwi balanced things back, Sharipov’s free kick got the points for his side in the last seconds of the game.

Goals: 1-0: Al Doseri, min. 9 (1); 2-0: Al Abdullah, min. 2 (2); 2-1: Al Doseri (og), min. 10 (3); 2-2: Abdurazzakov, min. 4 (3); 2-3: Abdurazzakov, min. 3 (3); 3-3: Al Mugahwi, min. 1 (3); 3-4: Sharipov, min.0 (3)

Thailand conquers head of group after narrow win over Vietam

The Thai National Beach Soccer Team will have the honour to enter the quarterfinals stage of the Asian Beach Games they are hosting in Phuket as the best team in their group, following a narrow win over Vietnam in the last match of the day. The hosts will now take on the loser of the Iran versus Oman tomorrow, whereas Vietnam will tackle the winner.

Thailand wanted to put the match on track as soon as possible, and Tapinna, with the first hit of his hat-trick today, pushed his team ahead. Vietnam reacted, though, and turned the score around, beginning a stroke exchange that left the score 4-4 with five minutes remaining. Anything could happen, with two sensational teams playing full force, but the Elephants finally prevailed, thanks to another of his stars, Nanan Komkrit, who sealed the three points and the head of the group for his side.

Goals: 1-0: Tapinna, min. 9 (1); 1-1: Tran, min. 6 (1);1-2: Mai, min. 8 (2); 2-2: Lepaijit, min. 7 (2); 2-3: Le, min. 6 (2); 3-3: Tapinna, min. 10 (3); 4-3: Tapinna, min. 6 (3); 4-4: Le Ngoc, min. 6 (3); 5-4: Komkrit, min. 2 (3)
