A big lead for the Tahitians almost was not enough to subdue the South American side
Tahiti qualified to the quarter-finals at Portugal 2015 with a 7-5 victory over Paraguay in Group C.
The French Polynesians set the tone for success early on, putting in a dominant 4-1 first period performance. The two teams exchanged early goals, but Tahiti took control of the match with three more first period goals, scored by Tearii Labaste, Teva Zaveroni and Angelo Tchen.
Tahiti was able to hold on to the lead despite a Paraguayan fightback, which included a second hat-trick for Paraguay’s Pedro Moran—his last a scissor kick that will live long in the memory.
The result means that the Tahitians and holders Russia both advance to the last-eight of the competition and will face each other to determine the Group C winner on Tuesday.
