More of Europe’s national championships return as the Swiss league is poised to begin in Jona
After a long period of uncertainty during to the Coronavirus pandemic, the Swiss Beach Soccer League will start its tenth season on Friday 3 July in Jona (SG) and will finish Sunday 16 August 2020.
Before it’s conclusion in mid-August, the league will host stages across the country in Jona, Basel, Wohlen, Aarau, Birr and the finals will be in Spiez.
The defending champion of the men’s league, Grasshopper Club Zurich, will face new contenders for the title, including BSC Beach Boys Bern and BS Basel, In addition to the usual contenders.
The Swiss champions of the women’s league, Havana Shots Aargau, are also set to take on new challengers, such as two BSC Lions Riviera and Beach Soccer Lion.
It promises a short but very intense beach soccer season this year and games will also be played on Friday evening in order to be able to cater for all the matches in the desired time. There will be 96 league games – with the exception of the Cup – which are held at six locations over the two summer months of July and August. The final event in mid-August is the highlight of the entire league.
Seven teams have registered for the women’s league and the men will play their games in two groups each composed of six teams and featuring many big names from the global beach soccer scene.
