Iran overcome cheeky Azerbaijan to secure three points, too
Spain bagged a consistent win over Ukraine in the Persian Beach Soccer Cup opening. The Spaniards lead a laudable performance, dismantling the tight Ukrainian defence with quick moves and sound attack.
Zborovskiy could equalize Llorenç’s opener in the opening of the second leg, but Spain immediately took off to get hold of the game’s control. A 4-0 run sealed things for Alonso’s side, who would never let Ukraine any close.
Even Riabko’s effort for the 5-2 was immediately replied by Eduard Suarez to restore the four-goal gap for Spain. The final 6-2 gets Spain on top of the table in Bushehr, looking forward to their game against Azerbaijan tomorrow. Ukraine, in turn, will take on the hosts, Iran, in search of their first win in the competition.
Goals: 1-0: Llorenç, min. 8 (1); 1-1: Zborovskiy, min. 11 (2); 2-1: Llorenç, min. 5 (2); 3-1: Dris, min. 4 (2); 4-1: Pedro, min. 8 (3); 5-1: Antonio, min. 3 (3); 5-2: Riabko, min. 2 (3); 6-2: Edu Suárez, min. 2 (3)
Iran scape with narrow win over Azerbaijan
Iran had to undergo more problems than expected in their debut at the Persian Beach Soccer Cup 2018, seeing Azerbaijan contest their hierarchy. The hosts managed to keep the Azeri at a safe distance in the last stages of the game, and secured three points that can become key in their future in the competition.
Mostafa, with two goals today, was the main hero for the Persian side today. The Iranian number four swept his side ahead just seconds into the game, making everybody think that things were going to ease for the hosts. Moradi, with the 2-0, seemed to confirm that, but before first period was over, Abdul cut distance in half to has things 1-2, Iran.
The remainder of the game became a tight contest, with Azerbaijan believing in their chances to upset the hosts. Mostafa widened the Iranian advantage with his second hit today, and that seemed to give the Iranians some air. The Azeri would not give up, though, and kept fighting. Midway half last leg, a ball deflected by Moradi ended up at the back of his own nets.
That added extra drama to the last minutes of the game, but that would not be enough for Azerbaijan. Iran resisted to bag the first points in the competition, but will need to improve as of tomorrow if they want to defend the Persian Beach Soccer Cup.
Goals: 0-1: Mostafa, min. 11 (1); 0-2: Moradi, min. 8 (1); 1-2: Abdul, min. 5 (1); 1-3: Mostafa, min. 6 (2); 2-3: Moradi (og), min. 5 (3)
