The first quarter-finalists have been chosen after second wins with one group stage match still to play
Kristall went one better than their previous match by scoring 14 against Zvezdy Dinamo to make the next round, becoming one of the six teams to make the quarter-finals before the last matchday.
The fact that the other teams in Groups A, C and D had lost both of their matches, meant that the top two of each of the three groups cannot be caught on the remaining matchday.
In Group A, Lokomotiv breezed to a second victory in two days, scoring nine against Sputnik, while Kronshtadt-Promenad squeezed a much nervier three points out of Lukoil, knocking the St. Petersburg side out of the Cup race, along with Samara’s Sputnik.
The only group that remains open is Group B, where ELMONT sit in first place, but still need to wait for results to go their way on the last day of group games to secure a quarter-final place.
They narrowly beat Lukoil by three goals to two, while AO Mekhta took a 4-1 win over Indastrials.
Kristall and Krylia Sovetov’s victories ended Russian Cup hopes for Alliance and Zvezdy Dinamo in Group C, who will face off on the final day of group matches in hope of picking up some last-minute points.
Delta scored seven and Spartak Moscow scored four to knock out City and Nika with comfortable wins to confirm their passage into the next round. The victors will play in one of the many games where the topspot is up for grabs in the final day of the group stage at the 2019 Russian Cup.
