Matchday three of African Beach Games to settle finishing positions as Abu Azeez scores 11
The final four sides left in the African Beach Games Sal 2019 have been decided. The journey ends for four other side, after being unable to pick up points in the opening two matchdays.
The star of day two in Sal was undoubtedly the Nigerian talisman, Abu Azeez, after he netted no less than 11 goals in a single game, helping the Sand Eagles put a whopping 29 past Djibouti to clinch a semi-final spot.
In Group B’s other match, Senegal, who are yet to concede a goal in Sal, also sealed their place in the next round with an 11-goal sweeping aside of Kenya who, along with Djibouti, are now out of the running to reach the World Beach Games in Qatar.
In the other group, Elton Ramos was on target once more, taking his tournament tally to nine (joint second in the running for Top Scorer) as hosts Cape Verde were also guaranteed a spot in the semis.
They beat Algeria by thirteen goals to three, ending their hopes of a ticket to Qatar. Algeria’s North African rivals Morocco however, join their hosts in the semi-finals, following what was remarkably the day’s narrowest win, a 7-2 victory over Equatorial Guinea.
The Guineans will now face Algeria to contest the third-place finish on the final day of the group stages, while Morocco will take on Cape Verde to fight for first place.
A classic African beach soccer fixture will take place on day three in Group B, as Senegal and Nigeria contest the topspot. Djibouti and Kenya will scrap over third place.
The women’s competition will also be decided on day three, as Algeria attempt to turn around a seven-goal deficit to make it to the World Beach Games. Can they achieve the impossible?
