The Swiss National goalkeeper decided to quit top-level Beach Soccer to concentrate in his family and his professional career
The closing of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2013 – Qualifier Moscow left us a bitter piece of news. Nico Jung, the wonderful Swiss goalkeeper farewelled the Beach Soccer elite competition. After thinking it a lot, Nico thought that it was the right time to say goodbye, after some injuries had been making his life hard in the last two years. “The decision was really tough, but it was thoroughly thought, as well”.
Moscow, then, meant the end of the way for a brilliant player, with nine years of international experience after his debut in 2003, against Belgium, in a friendly match played in Marseille. Beach Soccer has been a key part of his life during this time, and he has enjoyed that a lot, as he himself explains: “I had a wonderful time growing up with that spectacular sport. For sure I’m going to miss the experiences with my teammates of the national team and of course I’ll miss the whole beach soccer scene all over the world. Playing for your National Team, and listening to your National Anthem is a really unforgettable moment, and winning a trophy with the National Jersey is just awesome”.
Beach Soccer will miss such a good friend and excellent professional. See you soon, Nico!!
