SC Braga lift first Taça de Portugal

The Guerreiros do Minho beat Sporting in the final to claim their fourth trophy of the year

Sunday was an historic day for SC Braga, as they calmly dispatched Lisbon rivals Sporting CP to claim the inaugural edition of the Portuguese Cup.

They off the mark immediately and after a matter of minutes were leading by three goals to zero, thanks to a Leo Martins double and a Jordan strike. The second period was a little more balanced, as Ricardinho opened the scoring for Sporting but Bruno Xavier restored the Guerreiros lead.

Ricardinho scored again in the final period to close the gap but Be Martins joined his twin on the scoresheet to make it 5-3. Belchior netted too, but it didn’t take long for Jordan to hit his second of the match.

Another goal for each of the Martins brothers in the dying minutes meant that Coimbra’s consolation strike took the final score to 8-4.

The signature helmet appeared for the fourth time this season, as the warriors performed their well-rehearsed celebration on the Nazaré sand.

This means that SC Braga have won every event they have participated in this season: the Mundialito de Clubes, the Euro Winners Cup, the Portuguese League and now the Portuguese Cup.

This side is unstoppable!
