The 16 best teams of the Euro Winners Cup, ready to square off for the quarter-finals of the competition
Portsmouth bags last points at stake
Portsmouth could bid farewell to this Euro Winners Cup with a laudable win, after coming back from behind in their game against Copenhagen BSC.
The Danes lead the way for most of the first period, with Pompey having to equalise every time their opponent stepped ahead on the score. But things changed in the middle frame, as Portsmouth brought on a magnificent 0-3 run to get hold of the game control. In the third period, one goal on each end left things as they were, and Portsmouth BSC could bag their first points in the competition which, unfortunately for them, are going to be the lasts ones, too.
Goals: 1-0: Larsen, min. 11 (1); 1-1: J. Wood, min. 5 (1); 2-1: Jorgensen, min. 3 (1); 2-2: Black, min. 3 (1); 3-2: Larsen, min. 3 (1); 3-3: P. Wood, min. 0 (1); 3-4: J. O’Rourke, min. 7 (2); 3-5: Blake, min. 6 (2); 3-6: Blake, min. 3 (2); 4-6: Gram, min. 1 (3); 4-7: C. O’Rourke, min. 0 (3);
Odesos says goodbye with win
Bulgarian champions FC Odesos concluded their participation in the Euro Winners Cup 2016 with a victory over Swiss side Winthi Panthers.
A penalti kick helped Odesos get a head in the score in a tightly balanced first half. Winti Panthers, tried to fight back, but nothing worked for them, and the Bulgarian side took advantage of a better positioning on the pitch. On two occasions, and Stefanov definitely sealed the win for Odesos, who will at least have a last good ,memory of their spell here in Catania.
Goals: 1-0: Borisov, min. 0(1); 2-0: Iliyaz, min. (2); 3-0: Stefanov, min. 8 (3); 4-0:Iliyaz, min. 6 (3);
Chargers Baselland top group H after thriller vs Gyongyos
Swiss champions BSC Chargers Baselland accessed the round of 16 as the best in group H, following a hair-rising battle against Hungarian holders ESC Gyongyos. Rafinha, with three goals was the key man for the Alpine, especially with his last goal, which untied the game after the laudable fightback by the Magyar.
After a heavily contested first period, in which none of the sides found the back of their opponent’s nets, a 0-3 run for Chargers seemed to have things up and running for the Swiss. Bruno cut the distance almost over the second half end hooter, and Gyongyos finally stood up and completed their mighty comeback. With just five minutes to go, everything could happen, but along came Rafinha, for the third time in the match, to bag the winner for his side. The win ties Chargers, as the best in group H, with Melistar, second in group B, in the fight for quarter-finals.
Goals: 0-1: Werder, min. 11 (2); 0-2: Rafinha, min. 8 (2); 0-3: Rafinha, min. 7 (2); 1-3: Bruno, min. 0 (2); 2-3: Mauricinho, min. 7 (3); 3-3: Bruno, min. 5 (3); 3-4: Rafinha, min. 5 (3);
Djoker leaves Catania with one victory
CSD Djoker Tornado Chisinau could finally earn some points in this Euro Winners Cup 2016, following a win in their last match in the competition. That last wish was not granted to WKR Santos, who will leave Catania with no points at their counter.
The Moldovan champions opened the score midway half first period, thanks to Baesu’s effort. WKR Santos could equalise that first stroke by Djoker, but were unable to respond when their opponents stepped ahead on the score once again. Progressively, the Moldovan side widened the distance, to finally secure win in their last game. Evans scored again, with three minutes to go, but it was already too late for the English side.
Goals: 0-1: Baesu, min. 6 (1); 1-1: Evans, min. 11 (2); 1-2: Budigai, min. 7 (2); 1-3: Istrati, min. 7 (2); 1-4: Negara, min. 10 (3); 2-4: Evans, 3 (3);
Grembach bend ARMH Alanyasport in battle for next round
Grembach and ARMH Alanyaspor squared off today with one single objective: getting amongst the best 16 teams in this Euro Winners Cup 2016. But there was only room for one of them, as Lokomotiv Moscow was already qualified as the best of the group.
As expected the game was a fierce battle from the very beginning. In this battle, Grembach proved smart enough to step ahead and build a 2-goal distance, which helped them through the most difficult moments. After the stroke exchange, Grembach managed to construct a 0-5 run, by the beginning of third period, that definitely unbalance things on their favour. The win sends Grembach second in the group, and will now take on Ukraine champions Artur Music for a place in quarter-finals.
Goals: 0-1: Vini, min. 11 (1); 0-2: Rangel, min. 2 (1); 1-2: Cem, min. 4 (2); 1-3: Ricardinho (og), min. 3 (2); 2-3: Baris, min. 3 (2); 2-4: Rangel, min. 10 (3); 2-5: Widzicki, min. 10 (3); 2-6: Baran, min. 8 (3); 2-7: Rangel, min. 6 (3); 2-8: Ziober, min. 2 (3); 3-8: Baris, min. 2 (3); 4-8: Madjer, min. 0 (3); 4-9: Widzicki, min. 0 (3)
SC Braga keeps smashing defences
SC Braga keeps playing at a terrific level. The Portuguese side, with its unstoppable talent, is destroying all the defensive lines they have been taking on in Catania, and with a new wide victory confirms themselves as the rulers in group G.
The victim today was Romanian side Performer Constanta, who, despite having secured their place in the quarterfinals beforehand, had to undergo the punishment of facing the likes of Belchior, Be Martins, Amarelle, Bruno Novo… Braga hit early in the first frame, ready to let their opponents know what they were going to face today, and did not stop scoring until the referee blew the game over. As one of the favourites of the competition, SC Braga storms into the round of 16, when the Minho Warriors are to face Belarussian champions Bate Borisov.
Goals: 1-0: Belchior, min. 9 (1); 2-0: Leo Martins, min. 7 (1); 3-0: Be Martins, min. 4 (1); 4-0: Bruno Novo, min. 4 (1); 5-0: Belchior, min. 4 (1); 6-0: Belchior, min. 2 (1); 7-0: Be Martins, min. 8 (2); 8-0: Be Martins, min. 7 (2); 8-1: Bogdan, min. 2 (2); 9-1: Leo Martins, min. 2 (2); 10-1: Be Martins, min. 11 (3); 11-1: T. Batalha, min. 7 (3);
O. Hemako squizzes past Dinamo Batumi to earn round of 16
Pozniak’s winner opened a historical door for Omida Hemako Sztutow today. In a game that meant a lot for both contenders, as the winner would access the best 16 group for the first time in their history, one goal made the difference .
The Poles had to swim upstream for most of the game, as Dinamo wanted to command the score. Addari, first, and Todadze, midway half second period, swept the Georgians ahead, but Hemako managed to equalise on both occasions. Pozniak had his side in front for the first time in the game, and it would be for good, as Hemako clinched a very important win that sees them in the round of 16. There, Lokomotiv awaits.
Goals: 1-0: Addari, min. 11 (2); 1-1: Pozniak, min. 9 (2); 2-1: Todadze, min. 6 (2); 2-2: Daniluk, min. 8 (3); 2-3: Pozniak, min. 7 (3);
Loud win wipe doubts away for Artur Music
Artur Music saw the danger too close, after losing yesterday to Dinamo Batumi, and wanted to get down to business as soon as possible in their game today. They needed a win in order to stay alive in this Euro Winners Cup 2016, and this is what they got. Without leaving any room for doubt or nervousness, by the way.
The fifteen goals scored prove just how much powder the Ukrainian champions treasure. Having combined in their squad the backbone of the Ukraine’s National Team together with Swiss magicians Dejan Stankovic and Noel Ott gives the team a huge solidness and talent. More than enough to target the highest places in the competition. Those fifteen goals, at the same time, meant the best balm to yesterday’s defeat to Dinamo Batumi. From now on, though, no more mistakes allowed.
Goals: 1-0: Zborovskiy, min. 11 (1); 2-0: Eesmaa (og), min. 8 (1); 3-0: Ott, min. 7 (1); 4-0: Stankovic, min. 9(2); 5-0: Stankovic, min. 6 (2); 6-0: Rysenko, min. 6 (2); 7-0: Stankovic, min. 2 (2); 8-0: Zborovskiy, min. 7 (3); 9-0: Zborovskiy, min. 5 (3); 10-0: Korniichuk, min. 5 (3); 11-0: Ott, min. 5 (3); 12-0: Stankovic, min. 3 (3); 13: Glutskiy, min. 3 (3); 14-0: Korniichuk, min. 2 (1); 15-0: Ott, min. 1 (3)
Lokomotiv ready to target latest rounds
Lokomotiv have got beach soccer fans used to low starts, and powerful endings, and this Euro Winners Cup seem to point on that direction, too.
The Russian powerhouse struggled past Grembach in the first game to grow and run past their following two matches rather tyrannically.
Today, against Lithuanian side BSC Igol, the 2013 champions raised the bar a little bit, clinching a loud win that restates their privileged position within group F.
With four goals in the first four minutes, things got a rather unmistakable red colour, and Igol could do little to contend the offensive outcome of the precise machinery of the Russian locomotive.
The final 12-1 leaves little room for debate. Lokomotiv will now take on Poland’s Omida Hemako, in search for a quarter-finals berth.
Goals: 1-0: Shaykov, min. 11 (1); 2-0: Shaykov, in. 9 (1); 3-0: Antonio, min. 9 (1); 4-0: Fernando DDI, min. 8 (1); 5-0: Daniel, min. 2 (1); 6-0: Chuzhkov, min. 1 (1); 7-0: Fernando DDI, min. 10 (2); 8-0: Safronov, min. 9 (1); 8-1: Bebzdys, min. 8 (2); 9-1: Lukao, min. 7 (2); 10-1: Antonio, min. 7 (2); 11-1: Leonov, min. 4 (2); 12-1: Lukao, min. 7 (3);
Sovetov down Rostocker to book daunting last-16 tie
Krylya Sovetov ensured their place in the next stage of the Euro Winners Cup after running out 6-3 winners against Rostocker Robben, who bowed out in the groups.
Shmonin and Bokinha had the Russian side in control by the end of the first period and, despite conceding to Bullerjahn shortly after the restart, unanswered goals followed from Bokinha, Bryshtel and Pavlenko.
Turk and Korner scored either side of Bryshtel’s second to keep the noisy Rostocker fans celebrating in the stands.
But it is Sovetov who move to the next stage – a last-16 meeting with two-time defending champions BSC Kristall awaits on Thursday.
Goals: 1-0: Shmonin, min. 11 (1); 2-0: Bokinha, min. 0 (1); 2-1: Bullerjahn, min. 9 (2); 3-1: Bokinha, min. 4 (2); 4-1: Bryshtel, min. 3 (2); 5-1: Pavlenko, min. 2 (2); 5-2: Thurk, min. 9 (3); 6-2: Bryshtel, min. 9 (3); 6-3: Körner, min. 2 (3);
Bate head into knockouts as runners-up
Bate Borisov reached the last 16 of the Euro Winners Cup with a convincing 9-1 success against PBS Zwolle.
Samsonov was the man to bolster BATE’s hopes of progression with an early effort but the first period proved a cautious affair as Zwolle were able to frustrate for long spells.
Van der Landen denied Samsonov a second with a smart stop but the Zwolle keeper was unable to keep him out again, the Borisov man’s strike finding its way over the line.
Kamzolau headed in a third while Slautin and Haiduk also found the target before the break as BATE began to pull clear.
Zwolle pulled one back through a smart Timmer finish but Samsonov earned his hat-trick while Kanstantsinau, Alex David and Slautin added one each late in the match as BATE played their part ahead of DomusBet Catania’s victory against Atlas AO.
Goals: 1-0: Samsonov, min. 8 (1); 2-0: Samsonov, min. 2 (2); 3-0: Kamzolau, min. 1 (2); 4-0: Slautin, min. 0 (2); 5-0: Haiduk, min 0 (2); 5-1: Timer, min. 10 (3); 6-1: Samsonov, min. 9 (3); 7-1: Kanstantsinau, min. 4 (3); 8-1: Alex David, min. 2 (3); 9-1: Slautin, min. 1 (3)
Kristall shine to move into last 16
Euro Winners Cup champions BSC Kristall finished their Group B campaign with a 100 per cent record after proving too strong for Cartel Waterloo in a 13-3 win.
Datinha opened the scoring from the spot and a clever ball from Andre allowed Shishin to double the lead as Kristall found their range.
Seguin halved that lead with a penalty but Bruno Xavier got the champions back on the goal trail before Datinha bagged his second.
Ilinskii, Van Ophalvens and Shishin completed the first period’s scoring while Andre was on target early in the second. Ghion registered Cartel’s second, Shishin kept the Kristall scoreboard ticking and Andre rounded the period with a gift of a goal after a defensive mix-up.
After Vlaminck missed a penalty, Shishin and Andre fired in free-kicks, with the pair linking up for Shishin’s fifth as the goals flowed.
Bruno Xavier had the final say in a dominant display, as the champions signed off their group campaign in style.
Goals: 1-0: Datinha, min. 10 (1); 2-0: Shishin, min. 8 (1); 2-1: Seguin, min. 6 (1); 3-1: Bruno Xavier, min. 6 (1); 5-1: Ilinskii, min. 2 (1); 5-2: 22, min. 1 (1); 6-2: Shishin, min 1 (1); 7-2: Andre, min. 9 (2); 7-3: Ghion, min. 6 (2); 8-3: Shishin, min. 4 (2); 9-3: Andre, min. 0 (2); 10-3: Shishin, min. 8 (3); 11-3: Andre, min. 7 (3); 12-3: Shishin, min. 7 (3); 13-3: Bruno Xavier, min. 5 (3);
Gori inspires Viareggio to confirm top of group
Viareggio Beach Soccer will finally access the next round as the best team in group C. After the amazing win yesterday over Russian champions Krylya Sovetov, Viareggio confirmed today their privileged position with an incontestable win over Latvian BFK Zep Forever.
With five goals, Azzurri international carried most of the scoring responsibility today, proving why he is considered one of the best forwards in Europe. The privileged number 10 opened and closed the score for his side, and gets high in the goal scorers chart after a terrifically inspired performance. Viareggio will now take on Israel champions Falfala Kfar Qassem in the fight for quarter-finals.

Nelito on song for high-flying Terracina
ASD Terracina wrapped up top spot in Group D after seeing off Falfala Kfar Qassem 5-2 thanks largely to a four-goal haul from Belito.
After a goalless first period in the top-of-the-table clash, the forward scored three times in the second while Andre added one of his own.
Palmacci and Sarsur made things respectable for Falfala either side of Nelito’s fourth as Terracina made it three wins from three and head to the knockouts in fine form.
Falfala also qualify, having taken six points from their group campaign.
Goals: 1-0: Nelito, min. 11 (2); 2-0: Nelito, min. 11 (2); 3-0: Nelito, min. 10 (2) 4-0 Andre, min. 4 (2); 4-1: Palmacci, min. 3 (2); 5-1: Nelito, min. 6 (3); 5-2: Sarsur, min. 5 (3);
Pablo treble sends Melistar through
Melistar rounded off a successful group campaign with victory over La Grande Motta Pyramide as Pablo’s hat-trick helped earn a 7-4 win in a thrilling contest.
With both sides needed a win for progression, Melistar’s Sidi was twice denied early on before Marques produced a wonderful strike to open the scoring.
Both sides threatened further before the break – El Mahrouk hitting the bar with an overhead kick for Pyramide – and while Chiqui briefly levelled, Marques was at it again to restore the lead directly from the resulting kick-off.
Not to be outdone, Chiqui equalised again after the restart, quickly followed by Riduan’s first but momentum continued to swing as El Mahrouk levelled only for Pablo to make the most of a gift from Pyramide goalkeeper Barbikian.
Rambier was the man to haul the French side back but Amin responded once more before Pablo wrapped up his hat-trick and qualification for Melistar.
Goals: 0-1 Marques, min. 7 (1); 1-1: Chiqui, min 0 (1); 1-2: Marques, min. 0 (1); 2-2: Chiqui, min. 10 (2); 3-2: Riduan, min. 10 (2); 3-3: El Mahrouk, min. 7 (2); 4-3: Pablo, min. 6 (2); 4-4: Rambier, min. 8 (3); 5-4: Amin, min. 7 (2); 6-4: Pablo, min. 2 (3); 7-4: Pablo, min. 1 (3)
Catania stay perfect to top Group A
DomusBet Catania were in scintillating form as they beat Atlas AO 7-1 to make it three wins from three at the Euro Winners Cup and finish atop Group A.
Eager to put on a show, the hosts started brightly, Rodrigo among the early chances, with Jordan cutting in from the left and finding the bottom corner.
Fred and Gabriel were among those to go close for Catania before the break but Nikolaou levelled with a low drive from a free-kick.
But Rodrigo got a deserved goal after the restart and Palazzalo extended the lead with an acrobatic strike from a corner.
Fred spurned a great chance to make it 4-1 but Jordan made amends with another low finish before Rodrigo produced a sublime solo effort to get the crowd on their feet.
The forward applied the finishing touch to a wonderful team move and completed his hat-trick before Gabriel rounded the scoring in acrobatic fashion.
Goals: 1-0: Jordan, min. 7 (1); 1-1: Nikolaou, min. 0 (1); 2-1: Rodrigo, min. 10 (2); 3-1: Palazzalo, min. 5 (2); 4-1: Jordan, min 9 (3); 5-1: Rodrigo, min. 6 (3); 6-1: Rodrigo, min 1 (3), 7-1: Gabriel, min. 0 (3)
