The December Movers of the Month are the newly-crowned world champions, Portugal!
The winners of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup shoot up the ranking, slashing the gap between themselves and the Brazilians in the top spot to just 240 points.
After an incredible year for Portugal, in which they dethroned the 2017 world champions, won gold medals at the European Games Minsk and saw their own Jordan Santos claim the title of world’s best beach soccer player, Mario Narciso’s men round it off as the decades last Movers of the Month.
They leapfrog Europeans rivals Italy and Russia into second place in the Official World Ranking, closing the gap on leaders Brazil to an historically low number of points.
November’s Movers of the Month, Japan, also achieved another impressive leap into sixth position, overtaking teams such as Spain and Switzerland in the process, and signaling what could be the arrival of a new era for the Asian champions among the beach soccer elite.
Going the other way down the table were Russia, who move into fourth, while Morocco dropfour places into 19th.
On top of that, we also welcome two new African nations to the ranking in Burundi and Malawi following the 2019 Copa Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, taking the total number of national teams to 120!
