The Brazilian will take control of the competition’s host nation after taking the reins last week.
Peru have a new man at the helm after the South American nation appointed Brazilian Francisco Franco de Almedia Castelo Branco as their new Technical Director.
More commonly known as ‘Chicao’, Peru’s new coach was formerly Technical Assistant to Gilberto Costa’s world champions Brazil while also having served as Technical Director for the Brazilian Under-20 Team.
With the Under-20s Chicao won both the South American League and Championship but will now turn his attention to Peru’s senior team ahead of the upcoming Copa America de Futbol Playa – to be held just south of Lima in March.
With the Brazilian having already begun working alongside his new players, his appointment was welcomed by the president of the Peruvian Football Federation Edwin Oviedo.
“The hiring of Chicao represents a golden opportunity to enhance the development and growth of this discipline in our country,” he said.
“As well as training the senior team, he will also be responsible for reviewing and contributing to the long-term strategic plan.”
Chicao and Peru will find out their opponents for the Copa America when the draw takes place in mid-February.
