What was previously known as the ‘Overall World Ranking’, which orders the best men’s national beach soccer teams in the world, has been updated to ‘World Ranking’.
As a result of the 11-team opening of the European women’s standings to the rest of the world, the World Ranking – Women now consists of 19 national teams, with more expected to be added in the coming season.
Brazil’s newly formed squad jump straight into sixth place after winning a Bronze Medal at the World Beach Games in Qatar earlier this year, while Mexico go one better to enter the standings in fifth, after lifting the trophy at the World Beach Games qualifiers in El Salvador.
In the Club World Ranking, some South American powerhouses barge in to force the European rivals down the standings.
After winning the last three Copa Libertadores, Vasco da Gama (BRA) come in in second place, just behind the European and Mundialito champions SC Braga (POR).
Another Brazilian side, CR Flamengo, enter the standings in eighth place after lifting the World Winners Cup.
Another team who competed in the World Winners was American team, NorCal BSC, enter the Club World Ranking – Women in ninth, while Japanese club Tokyo Lequios LD come in at eleventh.
The addition of these rankings mark an historic step in the development and incorporation of more teams and players into the world of beach soccer, and we can’t wait to watch them grow!
