The top-level clubs event is set for Barra da Tijuca, Brazil from the 9th to the 13th of December.
Beach soccer, Brazil, and prestige go hand-in-hand so it is no surprise that the IV Mundialito de Clubes Beach Soccer will be in Barra da Tijuca. Beach soccer started its humble beginnings in Brazil and that makes it for the perfect location for such a spectacle of the best clubs in the world, some of which just so happen to be from Brazil. The five day extravaganza begins on December 9th in a highly spirited group stage, and it will finish with a bang on Sunday the 13th of December in the form of a winner-take-all final. This is the fourth edition of the highly revered club tournament and it showcases how important and grandiose the club level events have become within beach soccer.
The tournament format will consist of two groups and four teams will be in each group. The eight sides are some of the most recognizable squads in the world, with four of them coming from the hosts, Brazil. The list of accomplished teams is as follows: FC Barcelona, Al-Ahli, Sporting Clube de Portugal, Levante, Corinthians, Flamengo, Vasco de Gama, and Fluminense. The first clubs are the international participants while the final four will most assuredly have the home crowd on their side. The first three days will be group play, which will be followed by the semi-finals and lastly the third place match and final on Sunday.
Brazil and their clubs have dominated the first three versions of the Mundialito de Clubes as they have taken home either first or second each year. The first year was in 2011 when Vasco de Gama defeated Sporting de Lisboa for first place in Sao Paolo. The second edition had BSC Lokomotiv taking down Flamengo, also in Sao Paolo. The last edition was in 2013 and Corinthians defeated Flamengo on penalties in Rio de Janeiro. There has yet to be a two-time champion and this year is up-for-grabs also as every team has a legitimate shot. Two matches will be available on beachsoccer.com and livestream.com everyday but all the news and information will be readily accessible daily.
The match schedule for the IV Mundialito de Clubes de Beach Soccer has been confirmed, and most of the games will be broadcasted on beachsoccer.com.
