Extra time decides the hosts second game on the day two of the Morocco Cup, and Germany score 14 goals against Ukraine
It was a day of stark contrast in the beach soccer action of the Morocco Beach Soccer Cup, day two. A game of 22 normal time goals was followed by a game of just two, but plenty of excitement…
Ukraine v Germany
Ukraine suffered a defeat at the hands of their hosts yesterday, and even though today would offer them a similar fate, it seems that Yevhen Andrusenko’s side are unwilling or unable to participate in a low-scoring game in this tournament, as 22 goals flew in during their game against Germany.
Niblein put the Germans on the front within two minutes, and when an equaliser from Petrenko went in not long after, it set the tone for how the game would unfold. The second half of the first period alone saw nine goals, and Germany enjoyed the more a slim advantage as the whistle blew.
At 4-5 the game was still tight and neither team was able to stem the flow of goals as the second period got underway. Matteo Marrucci’s men appeared to shift into another gear, and Weirauch and Niblein filled their boots, bagging an impressive four goals each with a full period still to go. By the time the second period drew to a close the gap had widened and the scoreboard read 7-12 going into the third.
A five-goal gap was a lot to ask a tiring Ukrainian side to cancel out, but they went for it and Petrenko became the third player of the game to score four goals. In the end, it was too much of a mountain climb and the final result sat at 8-14 at the final whistle. Andrusenko’s men had to accept their second defeat in two days, and prepare for their final game against Oman on Sunday.
Morocco v Oman
In contrast to the day’s first game, the day’s second in the Morocco Beach Soccer Cup was a meeting between the hosts, who would be going into the game not only with the support of the home crowd, but also the confidence of a win from the day before.
Oman had also won the previous day, and the tie was a very evenly matched coming together of two strong teams. Hoewevr, both of which, despite creating many goal-scoring opportunities, were unable to break the deadlock in the first period.
The breakthrough came, though, in the form of Abada the Moroccan goalkeeper, who converted to nose his side in front. The lead only lasted for a matter of minutes though, and things were evened up when Sami found an equaliser with just two minutes of the period to go.
The third period started and both teams turned up the heat to try and grab a winner. But when neither side could find the back of the net, the bout went to extra time to find the victor. With just 15 seconds to go, the hosts found the difference and snatched a goal to take away two points and go top of the table.
