Simeon Hristov’s side took first place once more as they dispatched SA-MVR in the Bulgarian league final
The winner of the National Beach Soccer League of Bulgaria was decided in Varna this Sunday, as MFC Spartak fought hard to see off SA-MVR in the final showdown, which went to a nervy penalty shootout.
Simeon Hristov, who also heads the Bulgarian national team in which a number of the Spartak squad play, saw his side lift the trophy after a strong performance against their Sofia-based rivals.
It was the third title in a row for MFC Spartak, meaning that they will represent Bulgaria at the 2019 Euro Winners Cup, following their respectable 12th place finish in the 2018 edition.
It wasn’t an easy win though, as normal time between the finalists ended with the scores tied at five goals apiece. It would be a nerve-racking penalty shootout that would decide this one.
Spartak held their nerve to convert more penalties and clinch the gold for a third year running, and the players celebrated wildly.
FC Ruse occupied third place as they beat local Varna side UVSC N. Vaptsarov by seven goals to two on the last day.
