UAE, England, Spain and Brazil all win on the opening day
Group stage action got underway in NEOM as teams looked to secure points…
UAE win 5-4 against Germany.
The first match of the men’s competition was a contest between UAE and Germany in Group A.
The opening period belonged to the United Arab Emirates, as Ahmed Beshr scored the first goal of the match with his team leading 1-0 at the first interval.
Both teams struck on multiple occasions in the second period, with A.Abbas firing home two and Abbas finding the net for the Emiratis. However, Germany scored two of their own as Baasch and Olli were on target, as only one goal separated the two teams heading into the third period.
Ahmed Beshr completed his hat-trick in the last period, Mülling’s goal wasn’t enough to bring Germany back into the match.
Spain win 5-4 against Japan.
Following a strong showing in Cádiz in October, Spain got their NEOM Beach Soccer Cup 2024 journey underway against the 2023 runners-up in the competition Japan.
It only took Spain two seconds to take the lead in the fixture as Chiky Ardil opened the scoring, before doubling his tally minutes later, and Kuman scored one of his own. Despite the setback for the Japanese side, they found the net twice in the first period as Ozu and Oba both found the back of the opposition net before the first period came to a close.
Chiky Ardil found his third in the third period, whilst also providing an acrobatic assist for Ramy. Japan attempted to find their way back into the match as they scored twice in the closing 12 minutes courtesy of Tsuboya and Matsuda, but the Spaniards were able to hang on to a hard fought victory.
Brazil win 17-0 against China.
Defending champions Brazil started their campaign in NEOM against NEOM Beach Soccer Cup 2019 participants China.
The Brazilians found themselves five goals ahead by the end of the first period as Datinha scored a brace and Edson Hulk, Filipe and Benjamin Jr got their names on the scoresheet.
Brazil continued their relentless goal scoring in the second period as Benjamin Jr, Filipe and Edson Hulk netted their second goals of the match as Rodrigo scored two and Brendo found the net.
The goal scoring didn’t stop there for Brazil, as Edson Hulk, Datinha and Rodrigo completed their hat-tricks in the third period and goalkeeper Bobô, Thanger and Breno Xavier added to Brazil’s tally. The match ended with Brazil securing an emphatic 17-0 victory on the opening day.
England win 4-1 against Saudi Arabia.
To bring the first day of action to a close, England faced hosts Saudi Arabia in Group A.
Aaron Clarke put England in front in the tie, but the host nation would find themselves back on level terms by the end of the first period as Khalid equalised with 20 seconds left in the first period.
The three lions started to pull away from their opponents in the second period as Lawson slotted the ball into the bottom corner and Clarke found the net for the second time.
Saudi Arabia failed to score in the final 12 minutes, with Clarke scoring his third of the match to clinch all three points for England.
