CD Higicontrol Melilla and CD Melistar claim silverware in the Copa RFEF
CD Higicontrol Melilla and CD Melistar had the Copa RFEF Fútbol Playa stay in Melilla after two solid wins in both the women’s and men’s competitions finals, held in San Lorenzo beach (Melilla).
In the Women’s pool, CD Higicontrol Melilla edged Madrid CFF to claim the first ever Women’s Spanish Cup. Nati opened the score for Higicontrol, with two goals that had the hosts 2-0 up by the end of the first period.
European champion Anastasiia Gorshkova (top scorer of the competition) balanced things back for Madrid, at the be ginning of the second leg, but that was immediately counteracted by Maria Soto’s free kick for the 2-3.
Both teams kept fighting, but Higicontrol Melilla, with English and Spanish internationals such as Molly Clark, Katie James, Lorena Asensio (Tournament’s MVP) or Nati Gómez, managed to contain the Madileñas efforts and widened the distance with the 2-4, precisely by Lorena Asensio, thus sealing the win.
In the men’s final, 2017 league champions CD Melistar could forget their bitter performance in this year’s league by upsetting the 2018 National League champions UD Levante and seizing the Cup.
Pablo and Cristian Púa had CD Melistar quickly 2-0 ahead and, although French International Anthony Barbotti pulled one back for Levante, Mario would restore the gap for the hosts, securing the win with the 3-1.
Spain’s International defender Cintas was named Best Player of the competition, whereas Anthony Barbotti was awarded as the Top Scorer.
