Beach Soccer Worldwide (BSWW) is proud to announce its partnership with the Melanoma Fund, bringing the ‘Sunguarding’ mission to a global stage. This collaboration aims to raise awareness about sun protection and skin cancer prevention among beach soccer players, fans, and stakeholders worldwide.
Earlier this year, BSWW approached the Melanoma Fund to seek their expertise in improving sun protection for those involved in the sport. With beach soccer taking place in sunny environments with high UV exposure, this partnership is focused on prioritizing the health and safety of all participants. The Melanoma Fund’s resources and educational materials will support BSWW in promoting responsible sun protection practices within the sport.
As part of this joint initiative, BSWW has worked with the Melanoma Fund to develop tailored advice for beach soccer within the Sunguarding Sport campaign, which will be widely shared with the global beach soccer community. Additionally, the Silhouettes campaign—a striking visual featuring a footballer and melanoma awareness message—will also be promoted by BSWW, enhancing the sport’s commitment to player safety.
Raquel Gamez Águila, Head of Marketing at BSWW, said:
“The Melanoma Fund’s incredible work on sun protection and skin cancer awareness in sport made them the ideal partner for us. Their dedication aligns perfectly with our mission to prioritize player safety and coach education, making sunburn prevention a vital part of our beach soccer activities. We’re proud to support the ‘Sunguarding’ message.”
Why Sun Protection Matters in Beach Soccer:
• Beach soccer is played in sunny, open environments with high UV exposure.
• Sand reflects UV rays, increasing the intensity.
• Prolonged sun exposure heightens the risk of sunburn and long-term skin damage.
• Unprotected sun exposure can lead to skin cancer, including melanoma.
• Sunburn and heat-related illnesses can impair player performance and well-being.
• Effective sun protection allows players to focus on the game, free from the distraction of health concerns.
Michelle Baker, CEO of the Melanoma Fund, added:
“Our mission is to encourage outdoor activity while ensuring people understand the importance of skin protection. Partnering with BSWW allows us to take our work beyond the UK, setting new standards for player protection and promoting healthier habits worldwide. Together, we can save lives and create a safer environment for beach soccer athletes.”
